About
Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a type of manual therapy. It is a non-invasive, drug-free method of treating an array of health concerns. It was originated in 1874 by Andrew Taylor Still. He established the first school of osteopathy in the United States. The guiding principles of osteopathy are: that the body is a dynamic unit of function (and not merely a collection of parts); the structure and functions of the body are interrelated; and, the body has an innate self-regulating capacity.
A beautiful aspect of osteopathy is that it aims to work with the body to support it’s own self-regulating capacity rather than imposing invasive treatments on it. Osteopathic treatments aim to assist the body in returning to healthy equilibrium. If structure and function are interrelated, then treatments that return the body’s structures to balance can improve function in many ways.
